Garlic, Asparagus and Artichoke – Cut Out Diabetes

Scientists are now in the process of examining whether there are certain kinds of fiber which help in suppressing hunger and they could, additionally help the body in controlling the levels of blood sugar.

The question is answered -

The answer to these questions may have come in the form of chicory, asparagus, garlic and artichokes. These foods are said to be fermentable carbohydrates. Fermentable carbs are generally known to have a hand in the releasing of gut hormones (the hormones which are known to reduce and suppress appetite).

The Added Benefit for Diabetics –

They have another effect, which might turn out to be beneficial for diabetes. They are known to enhance the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Insulin is that hormone which gets produced from the pancreas which helps in letting glucose enter into the cells of the body. This is why these foods might actually cause for better control of glucose.

Research is being conducted –

A lot of institutions are now helping out to fund the research being conducted on such food items. If these food items and their subsequent usage turn out to be beneficial, the findings might be helpful in the creation of revolutionary treatments which could help combat diabetes (Type 2) and obesity.

By keeping a tab on how the glucose levels are being regulated in people who suffer from diabetes Type 2, it might be possible to come up with methods that could help in the prevention of their onset.

If these studies achieve success, then they might be helpful in determining whether or not these fermentable carbohydrates might be effective in providing the masses with what could turn out to be a rather affordable option in health intervention.

There are almost 3 million people in America who suffer from Type 2 diabetes (these are the ones who have been diagnosed; we’re not even taking into consideration the ones who remain undiagnosed). There are probably a good half a million to a million more who remain unaware of their condition and this might adversely affect their health by the time they actually become aware of the situation. When left untreated, this condition could also lead to other serious health complications – heart diseases, kidney failure, amputation or even a stroke.

Other Research being Conducted side by side -

There was a research paper published recently by the University of Leicester; which claimed that the consumption of green leafy vegetables would help in cutting out the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Cabbage, sprouts, spinach, kale and broccoli are said to be capable of cutting the risk of diabetes by a good 14 % when they are consumed on a regular basis. These veggies are said to be rich in their magnesium content and are packed with antioxidant properties. This is what links them to lower levels of diabetes.
