Aspartame is a well known artificial sweetener that is often used to sweeten diet foods for individuals who are trying to either lose weight or who are otherwise unable to consume large amounts of sugars such as those who are diabetic. What may not be well known however is the controversy behind the suspected dangers of aspartame.
Although the use of aspartame has been approved by the food and drug administration also known as the FDA, there have still been numerous reports that aspartame may actually have some very serious side effects although the validity of these claims is unclear.
Most research studies that have been conducted on the possibility of adverse effects or reactions in relation to the consumption of aspartame reportedly claim that when consumed in amounts less than that of the recommended daily consumption amount the effects are not dangerous. The current amount of aspartame it is recommended to keep this amount under is around forty milligrams.
Many of these studies also state that even if an individual’s ate numerous foods containing aspartame the chances are unlikely that a person will exceed the recommended consumption amounts.
According to reports the dangers of aspartame only occur when aspartame is used in excessive amounts however some of these dangers can be quite serious when you really stop and think about it.
There is no shortage of issues that reports have claimed were caused by the use of aspartame. These issues have included the increase of chances of diabetes in individuals who may be genetically predisposed to be at a higher risk of developing this condition, brain cancer and emotional and neurological disorders such as seizures, mood and sleep disorders, anxiety and depression.
It is suggested that the reason so many people are unaware of the possible complications that may arise from the consumption of this artificial sweetener is because the incidents that have led to these controversial reports have been over many years in locations that were far apart from each other in addition to the fact that these instances are not widely publicized due in part to the producers fear that aspartame could be pulled from the market as a result of such reports.
Although there is so much controversy relating to the possible dangers of aspartame there are still many individuals who opt to continue the use of products that contain aspartame. Some possible reasons for this could include the fact that for all the hundreds of people who believe aspartame is truly a danger to your health there are just as many individuals who firmly believe it is not. For this reason it becomes really difficult to ascertain if the consumption of aspartame is indeed a danger to the health of individuals who consume products that contain this artificial sweetener.
Even with all the alleged reports of dangerous effects of aspartame it is still claimed by many research studies that the use of aspartame is only dangerous when consumed in large or excessive amounts.
