Food Seasoning Options for Diabetics



Eating the right kind of foods is extremely important for the diabetics. According to medical experts, other than reducing their daily carbohydrate consumption diabetics should also limit their salt and fat intake for preventing health disorders that they are susceptible to, for instance high blood cholesterol levels, hypertension etc. One of the biggest challenges that diabetics and their caregivers need to face is crafting dishes without using enough sugar, salt and fat. Using certain spices for seasoning can make the foods taste good even without using enough sugar, salt and fat.

The herb is absolutely safe for diabetics and can be used for adding flavors to sugar free dishes like oatmeal, apple crisp and pumpkin cookies.

Ginger:

Some tests have revealed that ginger has positive effects on cholesterol levels and insulin sensitivity of humans. Two studies conducted in India respectively in 2004 and 2005 have shown that ginger can effectively reduce triglycerides, blood pressure and lipids. Several Asian recipes require use of ginger as a flavoring agent. Some ideas of using ginger is food include using it for adding seasoning to homemade salads, soups and chicken items.

Fenugreek:

FenugreekFenugreek seeds are known for their ability of reducing blood sugar levels in diabetics. A study conducted at Canada’s University of Guelph has revealed that these seeds work by lowering the insulin resistance of cells. Another study conducted in Delhi has identified the herb’s ability of fighting reactions which leads to diabetes related cataract. You can add Fenugreek power for flavoring vegetables and beef dishes.

Diabetics can also be benefited by using substances like coriander, cumin, raw garlic, turmeric and chili pepper for adding flavors to their foods.
